How do people read E-books?
I think I'm too ADHD, I can't make any progress unless I'm reading off a physical book.

You are literally holding a star trek machine. You are using the technology dreamed about for hundreds of years. It's fucking cool as shit. And our zoomer monkey brains find it fucking fascinating. We have been trained to read from screens most of our lives, so an ereader actually tricks me into reading more than if I picked up a book.

It's never about willpower, it's about systems. Set yourself up for success and know your weaknesses.

Get a kindle paperweight. Best fucking investment I've ever made. I just pace around my house like an autist all day when I have free time reading with it. Download rtf files from wherever and send them over to the kindle. $100 investment and you can read any book in the world for free with it. Honestly, I don't think there's a reason to pick the Paperwhite over the last gen basic Kindle, which also has a lit display, and if you were to pick the basic Kindle, the Kobo Clara HD is probably a better option (no ads, same res and PPI as the Paperwhite).

If you're going to invest some extra bucks, just get an Oasis or a Kobo Libra (which I just checked and it sells for $150 which is insane).

If you don't have any, maybe wait out a bit since new Kindle models should be advertised soon.

What should I do before my Kobo comes in the mail? I downloaded calibre and I have some books I want to put on it. I know that settings are generally personal preference but what do y’all do? I feel like there has to be an optimal way to set things up that isn’t just obvious ‘read books lol’. With technology there’s always something to improve it. I heard you can replace the SD card for more memory, may do that later. But what about organizing books? I feel like 8 gigs of books as just a list is going to be a nightmare? What are your unexpected issues that cropped up when you started using an e reader?

If your eyesight is okay, keep in mind that an average book has 8 to 12 words per line so adjust margins and font size accordingly.

Uploading thousands of ebooks to an ereader makes no sense to me but then I cured myself of digital hoarding when dial up was still a thing and shortly after when you could burn a ton of anime on DVD-Rs.
I heard Kobos allow nested categories (i.e., categories and subcategories) to organize your books, which Kindles don't, so it might be slightly less messy on one.
Still, even if my Kindle had 4 times the capacity it has (measly 1.5 gb) I wouldn't bother uploading more than 100 books tops (that's close to a full year worth of reading). I have 50 or so permanent ones I sometimes re-read or check their highlights or annotations, and the other 50 is stuff I plan to read sooner rather than later.
If I uploaded 400 ebooks, a couple years later I wouldn't even remember why some of those books interested me. Being selective with the stuff I upload is a way of "self hyping" when the options are almost infinite and reminding myself of them by managing my Calibre library. It's similar to having a manageable "stack" and a physical bookshelf.

Unless you'll routinely find yourself without computer access for months, I'd recommend you do the same.

Just keep a dozen or so books on at a time, then take them off when you're done with them. Keep them backed up on a laptop or whatnot.

No. The Starship Enterprise isn't smothered in burgerking adverts and filled with 24/7 shitty pop music. Even the Ferengi homeworld isn't like that.

The mobile phone is not a feeder of minds, it's a destroyer of them.

Anyone who turns off their phone or loses their internet connection for a week immediately tells everyone how fantasically transcendental the experience is. We're all victims of the attention economy.

Amazon is literally burning books by permitting the resale of in-print used books. Amazon is destroying the physical book industry. The Amazon marketplace sells most public domain books for a small profit. Amazon can disappear any book they like from your Kindle, and the device uses silent updates whenever an internet connection is established. It's entirely conceivable that users could wake up to find that Amazon corporate has inserted communist propaganda into their ebooks, but this will never happen because people who read on ereaders are incapable of paying attention to what they're reading. Funding the destruction of physical books and the written word has nothing to do with enjoying both modes of reading. Amazon basedcucks should be ashamed.
