Is it more likely that humans have individually created human souls that are either heading to an afterlife or being crushed into oblivion.

Or is all individual consciousness just an illusion? As in all conscious creatures in the universe are from the same substance therefore all life is essentially one conscious being expressing itself in many different 'modes' (DNA structure, separate bodies etc)

The 2nd theory is more terrifying than hell because it means that suffering will quite literally never end.
Creatures will exist until the universe collapses, and then a new big bang is created from the potential energy of the collapse, where the process starts all over again and suffering begins again.

It is the 2nd one OP, I am sorry. There is no such thing as existence ending at death.

I am a new boy here I would have made a new thread but this seems like the right place.
Can you guys recommend a starting place to start reading about consciousness.

Spinoza is the best, just unfortunate that he wasnt as detailed as a lot of people would like.
But I am not sure I would tell a noob to start with reading him.

#2 is correct.

It's not terrifying, but vivifying and inspiring.

Gird up your loins and embrace eternity.

what do you mean by the soul? what do you mean by consciousness? what do you mean by illusion?

when a man loses his sight do you think that his sight passes into another body of the primordial god? suppose you lose a toe? does your toe cross over into the abyss?

certainly you would say such things are absurd. why grant a higher position to the soul or human consciousness? things we understand far less .

yes

i meant to link this thread. read plato. familiarize yourself with Samkhya Hinduism

Your Higher Self is like the platonic form of yourself. It is very real.
You are a projection from the realm of spirit into the realm of illusory matter (Purusha -> Prakriti)
Purusha (Spirit, Being) and Prakriti (Matter, Becoming):
The recursive paradox of the whole situation is that it is you NOW that is empowered to define who exactly that perfect self IS and WILL BE
The One/All splits into Purusha and Prakriti so that it can experience itself evolving / becoming. We are "simulating" (within Prakriti -Nature/Matter) archetypal Forms that exist independently in Spirit.
Form exists at the limit where Becoming approaches infinity. Pure Being in archetypal spirit-space. Strive to become more like the perfect Forms, the Logoi, in your everyday life.
This Higher Self, in turn, has a life of its own and a "higher-higher self"; it lives, sleeps, dreams, just like you and I, only in a higher dimensional resolution.
The process of becoming is an infinite journey - like the concept of an asymptote in mathematics. Prakriti, Matter, Kundalini "fuels" the individuation process

This probably won't happen; it's more likely that the universe will continue to expand indefinitely, and entropy will eventually lead to the extinction of all life.

No, because you can can escape from the cycle and become immortal and free

>The theory of consciousness
We can't know what consciousness is until we fully understand quantum mechanics and thus understand quantum biology. As we now know the human mind makes use of quantum mechanics and isn't just a purely classical physics structure.

>Creatures will exist until the universe collapses, and then a new big bang is created from the potential energy of the collapse, where the process starts all over again and suffering begins again.
Because you made this thread, we can be certain the odds of this thread existing aren't zero. Therefore in an infinite universe you've made this thread an infinite amount of times, but does it really matter if you have no recollection of the previous times? Perhaps there are ways to escape this cycle, but personally I don't see a reason to, I love being alive and love my life despite the few flaws it has, i'd love to do it all over again.

Only if present trends continue, and the very existence of the universe is a demonstration that present trends to do not have to continue.
