Jurassic Park, Alas Babylon, Salems Lot, and Rosemary’s Baby are all good, digestible novels it’s almost impossible not to enjoy. Like those are books I’d bring to friends in the hospital knowing they would be enjoyed even if the person wasn’t big on reading.
Ira Levin, Michael Crichton and Stephen King are all good fiction bestseller authors that are worth looking into in general.

Maybe try Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates is your looking for something with a bit more depth, a bit more literary you might say.

He sounds like he has poor taste in books. Regardless, buy him Dune, or LOTR.

Your bf should acquire taste. Hyperion is a really good sci-fi book and I would recommend it to anyone

Nah, just that he hasn't read much. OP: Fahrenheit or Catch 22 are probably safe. Otherwise, you could get him a general philosophy book like The Great Conversation. Once he's done with that he should get back to basics and start with the Greeks

looks like he's interested in dystopian future books. besides the ones recommended here like Fahrenheit, you can direct him to some phillip dick classics.
