yes of course.
for instance i myself as a determinist also "believe" in the square or the circle or the logarithm. you can call me a platonist if you want, but the other word you keep using "materialist" is completely devoid of meaning.
penrose (and i) doesn't believe in magic or in a supernatural world. and, i repeat, he calls himself an atheist.

He is not atomist at all. In fact he explicitly states that all matter is decaying into radiation.
Platonism also involves mentalist processes. I don't think Penrose is behaviorist on that front but prove me wrong. In fact, what I do know is that he is a strong critic of algorithmic views of rational acts and consciousness. In this sense he is not determinist at all. He can be called "determinist" in being lukewarm about wavefunction collapse in quantum mechanics, which is something else entirely.
Things that you disagree with are not automatically "magic".

of course he doesn't and you don't know what you are talking about.
> mentalist processes, behaviorist, rational acts
he doesn't even address that psychological garbage.
> determinism
he believes or rather knows that reality, which is the conscious universe and that alone, is ruled by the mathematical laws of physics. they equally work for your maggot brains and for a waterfall.

>we have some evidence of x lads, even though I dont really understand it and is very likely be wrong or incomplete by my own admission, and we might find otherwise in 25 years

wow that really DOES btfo 2500 years of philosophy
We just spent 100 years talking about wether the big bang btfo philosophy and religion or not, cant wait to spend another 200 discussing this one for some reason until we find out it was wrong too.
Atheist materialists stand on shakier grounds than philosophy and for some reason argue as if they had actual facts, and for some reason we keep listening to them as if they did.

He's 90 and has spent the last two decades promoting "interesting" fringe views. I don't frame that a negative per se, considering the sorry epistemological state of the "established" mainstream, but those attempts have been more strange than illuminating.
Even in his core domain, his shilling of cosmic microwave traces proving conformal cyclic cosmology in the last decade has been a failure, and the empirical claims retracted.
His attempts at expanding outside cosmology have broken the myth about the man (see his attempts at delving into computation and artificial intelligence discussions, and biology).
Should have stopped when he was on top.

He even think electrons mass will disappear, and that particles just decay on their own in isolation without interaction, which is usually the stopping point for other with similar theories.

no, in that paper he talks about massless particles (like the photon or some particle physics elements). that just confirm him to be an atomist and a determinist.
