How does gnosticism solve the problem of evil? Any books on this topic?

>> No.16515931

if gnostics think that the demiurge is evil, does that mean they have to deal with a problem of Good?

no, because good is a consequence of the spirit imprisoned in matter

It allows the creator of the world around us to be flawed, while still containing a "perfect being" that satisfies all the usual philosophical arguments.

If the emanation of the Monad is, in a roundabout manner, responsible for evil, how does the concept of a Demiurge and Monad solve the problem of evil in any way?

>> No.16516648

>>16516633
It doesn't, or in any case is more honest about the reality of evil. Only hard dualism answers the problem of evil.

I always thought the idea of the absense of good being evil to be the best and most strightforward explaination without all the warping arbitrary fuckery of gnostic system.

I like the privation of good theory because it squares with both Christian and Platonic/Neoplatonic thought, both of which appear to have a great deal of truth to them otherwise
