What makes "good literature" good? Seems like /lit/ is full of critics, so I guess you'd know a lot about good literature.

If I like it, it's good, if you like it, it's shit, if there is an overlap, it's decent.

type spoiler in square brackets [ ] and then type your message and then type endspoiler in squarebrackets at the end
[ spoiler ] like this [ endspoiler ] without the spaces

-Meaning
-Influence on other writers
-Creation or pinnacle of new literary movement
-vast influence stretching beyond literature

this are, in my opinion, some of the things that can make a book "objectively" good

Good literature is whatever you think it is. It's a nebulous and totally relative qualifier that's almost useless. Critics tend to agree on things because of a) influence, b) popularity, and c) innovation. But your favourite author might be Thomas Wolfe, who isn't enjoying critical acclaim right now. Or Robertson Davies, who's also being ignored in academia a lot. But both of them are "good" literature, I suppose. Both of them are influential, popular and innovative. Then again, you don't have to be innovative to be good. Just look at Dickens.
