Lord be with you on this blessed Sunday, brothers.

Fratelli Tutti - The third encyclical of Pope Francis I is out. Last one being Laudato si' more than five years ago.

He starts with:
1. “FRATELLI TUTTI”.[1] With these words, Saint Francis of Assisi addressed his brothers and sisters and proposed to them a way of life marked by the flavour of the Gospel. Of the counsels Francis offered, I would like to select the one in which he calls for a love that transcends the barriers of geography and distance, and declares blessed all those who love their brother “as much when he is far away from him as when he is with him”.[2] In his simple and direct way, Saint Francis expressed the essence of a fraternal openness that allows us to acknowledge, appreciate and love each person, regardless of physical proximity, regardless of where he or she was born or lives.

2. This saint of fraternal love, simplicity and joy, who inspired me to write the Encyclical Laudato Si’, prompts me once more to devote this new Encyclical to fraternity and social friendship. Francis felt himself a brother to the sun, the sea and the wind, yet he knew that he was even closer to those of his own flesh. Wherever he went, he sowed seeds of peace and walked alongside the poor, the abandoned, the infirm and the outcast, the least of his brothers and sisters.

Benedict XVI came too early. It should've been vice versa, Francis (given that he is God's choice and was going to happen eventually) was supposed to be from 2005 to 2013, after which a platonist reign of Ratzinger would come as needed, as much as John Paul II's diplomatic approach and communist background was needed in the '90s during the fall of socialism in the East.
I'm not giving Francis many more years, he's pretty old as it is, but given God's intervention, the next pope should imbody a spirit similar to Ratzinger's.

If not then God help us.

Caths don't have to imagine.
And Ratzinger was a shitty liberal rebel himself against neo-scholasticism since it wasn't idolatrous of other faiths like the jews.

>Shameless aggression

>44. Even as individuals maintain their comfortable consumerist isolation, they can choose a form of constant and febrile bonding that encourages remarkable hostility, insults, abuse, defamation and verbal violence destructive of others, and this with a lack of restraint that could not exist in physical contact without tearing us all apart. Social aggression has found unparalleled room for expansion through computers and mobile devices.

>Information without wisdom

>49. As silence and careful listening disappear, replaced by a frenzy of texting, this basic structure of sage human communication is at risk. A new lifestyle is emerging, where we create only what we want and exclude all that we cannot control or know instantly and superficially. This process, by its intrinsic logic, blocks the kind of serene reflection that could lead us to a shared wisdom.

Why does this read like it was copy and pasted together from multiple drafts from different authors?

Look at the footnotes at the bottom. Lots of them reference Francis' own writings and homilies, but there are plenty of others.

It's funny how you can read this as an apologia for paternalistic imperialism. Really, a lot of dialogue around migration, racism, etc. is tortured by the fact that most American/Euros view non-whites as children in need of their loving care, but try to express this without violating the axiom of equality.

" If every human being possesses an inalienable dignity, if all people are my brothers and sisters, and if the world truly belongs to everyone, then it matters little whether my neighbour was born in my country or elsewhere. My own country also shares responsibility for his or her development, although it can fulfil that responsibility in a variety of ways. Tio Sam has seen that your people are all playing OSRS for money. It's time for us to take concern with your economic development."

Paternalistic imperialism could be "cozy" indeed.

Damn they made another sequel to Rerum Novarum? Honestly the distributism fandom Has gotten out of hand, cheap copies and rip offs of the original are all thats left. Perhaps the only salvage ageable piece of modern distributist literature is Towards a Truly Free Market.
