Does the KJV of the Bible have any literary merit?

Seeing the effect its prose has had on writers like Melville, Faulkner, and McCarthy, and even seeing how some of the most important works of literature have incorporated its themes and imagery is really facinating to me.

Absolutely. The writing is beautiful and has clearly impacted many writers, not just Americans. Some say the Bible doesn't have any merit because one could read the stories elsewhere, but if one reads it in good faith (not necessarily in a religious sense), it can really fucking astonish.
