I remember during college I got autistically worried worried that they'd find ways to "erase" books, so I read as much of the Canon as I could. Now I'm honestly comfortable knowing the Canon can (more or less) defend itself, but I still read as much as I can of it because it's wonderful stuff.

I don't really think anyone calls the Canon Defenders leftist. The Canon's called things like racist, sexist, privilege and colonization-friendly, and "telling only one story". Not all leftists attack it, but most aren't defending it either. Not to say it's right-wingers defending it, usually just self-interested people who love beauty.

Reminds me about a story a guy told me who was part of this Dutch altright group:

Basically he was discusing with a new professor the poetry of Slauerhoff, who wrote nice traditional verses about the seamans life and the orient, etc. Anyway the professor gets so angry at him that he starts repeating Hanlo's Oote, which is basically just random sylables, in a loud an hysterical manner, the guy points out to the class that the man is being infantile and a mongoloid, finally the guy gets enough, declares that he has enough and he will convert to nationalsocialism right here and now, before anyone else could speak a guy in the class says, alright so you do agree with the professor about something!
