I enjoy keeping my large books in good condition, except for notes/underlining/marginalia. My IJ and Ulysses copies look great with intact spines even though I read them quickly and seriously and spent a lot of time with them. I just like to cushion large books on a pillow in my lap or something for comfortable reading and I never dog-ear, I use business cards as bookmarks.

>he cracks his book's spines
Philistine. Hurting or damaging any book whatsoever is sacrilege. My books all look brand fucking new, except for a copy of Stranger in a Strange land which I passed around to all my friends in high school.
