Especially when you are given an unseen text by an obscure poet.

When they mark so strictly by the answer sheet it's essentially a gamble whether you get the correct interpretation or not, especially if you are perceptive enough to see multiple meanings.

They should mark you by how well constructed your argument is, not whether or not they agree with you.

But then everyday people would have to learn how construct arguments and identify patterns in reasoning (aka formal logic), and what would the elite lawyers do to stay in power then?

thats why I fucked my poetry module and got a 2.2, you need to cover your back by including alternate interpretations instead of what I did- just asserting critical viewpoints by decree like an arrogant poetic emperor

I like this. I shall refer to myself as an arrogant poetic emperor from now on.

did your interpretation include contextual evidence?

Yeah but I didn't fully bring in the role of IMAGINATION and how it linked the two poems I was supposed to compare and contrast so I was told to rewrite it.

Ode on a Grecian Urn and Ode to a Nightingale were the two poems.

I REMEMBER IN A TAX LECTURE, THE LECTURER WAS GOING ON ABOUT SOMETHING OR OTHER TO DO WITH INCOME, AND HE SAID THAT SOMETHING ABOUT THE MAIN INCOME COMING FROM THE HUSBAND (IT WASN'T AN EXAMPLE, JUST IN GENERAL) AND SOME GIRL WAS LIKE "COULDN'T IT BE THE WIFE WHO MAKES THE MONEY AND THE MAN WHO DOESN'T?" AND HE SAID "YEAH, JUST A LITTLE TYPO, NO BIG DEAL" AND CAPSGUY GOES "NO, IT'S RIGHT AS IT IS!"

ACCOUNTING MAJOR IN MY UNIVERSITY IS FILLED AROUND 60-75% OF FEMALES, AND ADVANCED TAX HAD AT MAX 15% MALES. YOU CAN TELL I WAS LOVED FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE SEMESTER.
