Have you ever skipped a book because the cover was wrong? Does the cover help you read the book, help you come back to it? Does a cool cover help the book, more than a lame cover?

Pic related, I ordered online hoping for the left and I got the right. I really liked the book, but a few years later I traded it for the other cover and now I definitely find myself picking it up more.

Couldn't give two shits about most book covers as long as they aren't ugly.

the cover on the left is gay

I would prefer if book covers didn't exist.
The spine is the only part you need anyway.

I definitely consider the cover when buying a book at a store. I look at it before I read the blurb, and I can't deny I decide whether or not to read the blurb based on if I like the cover

the only thing i don't care for, about covers, are quotes that are supposed to hype the book. i feel like it cheapens the content when you try to sell a book by boldly showing the most glowing of reviews. anyone can do it--regardless of the book's quality. you can squeeze a good sentence or two from a review that makes it look good. what's worse is when the translator gets this treatment.

70% of my decision to buy a book is based on the cover. I'm not ashamed of this.

I refused to buy this version of Solaris even though it was cheaper.

One of the main draws of buying physical books (for me at least) is the cover. With digital books, you can change the cover all you want, but a.) the fact that you can change the cover at will cheapens it, and b.) nobody is looking through your digital library. With physical books on a shelf, having a nice looking cover is great for when people do look at your bookshelf, and the contentment knowing you own the physical copy of the book with a cover you think looks nice.

For example, The Revenant; the old edition's cover (from when it was published in 2002) is boring and looks like shit. The new cover (for the movie release in 2015) looks fucking metal, and is the one I want on my bookshelf. Pic related is the new, 2015 movie cover.

My only complaint about the cover with the bust is the "new translation" circle in the corner of the picture. Makes it cheap looking. Not sure if that is a sticker or part of the cover.

the worst kind of stickers are always the ones that say "New Edition!" or "Now a Major Motion Picture!" or some shit like that

They aren't the same book though. They are different translations of ancient philosophy in Koine Greek so there can be large and important distinctions between the texts e.g. how they choose to translate technical terms used by Stoic philosophers.

I've never read the translation on the left but I remember him saying he translated it to reflect a more "notebook" feeling.

So what's important is what translation you prefer.
