Excellent. One of the best novels of the last 30 years. Gwyneth Paltrow bought the rights to make a movie adaptation but it hasn't happened so far.

It has a cliquish upper class setting that probably appealed to her. It's a great novel, brilliantly written and very suspenseful.

Blends highbrow and lowbrow literary qualities quite well. I enjoyed it. It's not the best book I've ever read, but it's up there. I recommend it.

It's like 5 bucks in a translation I can get. Should I read it in English?

In English, Tartt's prose is beautiful but not hard to understand.

it's not particularly deep, but it's so fun to read. i love the anachronism, the fact that the classics clique pretends they're at cambridge/harvard in 1920 despite living in 1980s america. donna tartt was like fuck it, i'm ripping off brideshead no matter what.

Essentially, the book is about the master (based on a real life professor, Claude Fredericks) guiding them towards an elevated, civilized world.
