when I was in high school, i used to read anne rice vampire novels in my philosophy class. the teacher berated me for reading trash. he then said we would be starting consolation of philosophy and he was impressed that i knew it already. i explained to him that armand and marius were discussing it in my trashy novel. also once we started reading boethius, it reads exactly like an anne rice novel, i think her writing style was partly influenced by it.
