What's your ideal book?
Writing style, length, plot and tropes, characters, hell, the font and cover. Anything and everything.
If you could custom order a book, perfectly tailored to you, what would it be like?

My ideal book has very strongly defined characters, and is very character-driven. The characters have strong motivations, make choices, and have to deal with these choices, good or bad (this is why No Country For Old Men is probably one of my favorite books).

As for things like design, I really like those minimalist, very stylistic book covers that you saw a lot of in the 50s and 60s, like those early jazz album covers. I think those are awesome.

The ones I've been planning in my head for years but haven't started to write them yet because I'm afraid of doing it.

can you post an example? because I enjoy covers of 60-70s, but they're usually the exact opposite of minimalist?

Everytime I want to write I find an excuse to not do it.
I'm afraid of having a shit prose (I know I can edit it, but still), having bad characters, a bad plot, or to write something just to find I ripped-off a much better book.

You don't have to show it to anyone. It can just be for you. Don't write for anyone else, just you. Even if you're embarrassed by it in the end, the ability to finish a story is a power in itself.
Even if it's bad, or derivative, or embarrassing, creating something is catharsis for you, not anyone else. If you can write, then you should. Just being able to hold a finished story in your hands must be something wonderful.

the thing about art (whatever anyone else says) is that it's an expression of yourself. whatever anyone else says, or thinks, or tells you... if other people like it, that's just a bonus. Why do you want to write? Is it so you can impress someone else? Or is it because there's something inside of you that drives you to write?

I've never managed to finish a single story, and it fucking haunts me. I'd kill for the ability to just finish a single goddamn story.

my guy, I'm flattered by the assumption that I'd ever be able to write someone else's story, let alone my own.
