what are the preferred translations of every extant Greek work, in chronological order

>> No.16409720

Homer: George Chapman
Herodotus: Macaulay
Thucydides: Thomas Hobbes
Plato: Benjamin Jowett
Plutarch: Dryden

>> No.16410053

>>16409383
Jowett is good for Plato in general but I'd go with Bloom for the Republic. If you're gonna get all the dialogues get the Princeton Complete Works.

>> No.16410131

>Homer: George Chapman
What sets Chapman's translation apart from, say, Fagles'?
