the only ones that can be hard to remember are all of the tennis player names but ultimately they don't matter that much. pemulius is hal's best friend, then there's the kid that likes talking into his hand and after that it barely matters. gately is the only one worth caring about

How did you find all the abbreviations and acronyms? DFW takes inspiration from a Pynchon, sure, but so far I find the abbreviations make the reading more sluggish, what's the point you know

some of them he will explain them later in the story like O.N.A.N. etc you won't understand the geopolitical situation until way later in the book which includes the acronyms for different canadian insurgency groups. also DFW doesn't explain things only once, so if you miss something important you'll get a chance again. for example the big footnote about the wheelchair assassins is pointed at by other footnotes later in the book even after he points to it in the main text
