One ebook is the same value of three decent sized books, what are you on about lmao. It was the best tool I could find to read books for cheap, and if the price is too high for you you can just buy a secondhand or even older models, which are almost the same quality as modern ones besides the resolution being a bit worse.

Or just use a public library lol.

e-ink and lcd are different technologies. if you have an ereader without a backlight then there is very literally no difference between reading a physical book and looking at the e-ink screen. e-ink pixels don't produce any light, however newer e-readers often use backlights so that you can see in the dark, which would be the equivalent of shining a flashlight onto a book in the dark - although the e-ink reader would be better in that regard since you can control brightness quite precisely and strenuous body positioning more conveniently even though both would likely cause eye strain for long periods

>Where does this "staring at the screen will make you blind" meme come from?
there's simply not much good research on the subject yet, especially because lcds got popular in the 21st century. the supposed issue with screens being bad for your eyes isn't that light (massless "particles") will hurt your eyes, that makes little sense, it's that looking at screens causes you to blink much less and the retinas be hyper-focused for very long periods causing eye strain which MAY or may not contribute to increased degeneration of eye sight. personally, i think it's safer to assume that it does since we simply don't know. it's still a bit of a mystery why so many people naturally grow up with awful eyesight. i myself have 20/300 eyesight which means that without glasses i'm fucked w/o glasses, and my social life without them would be awful since i can't recognize people until after they've walked past me.

with that said however i still use e-ink screens, since i can't comprehend how e-readers would be worse for eyestrain than simply reading a book.

You're better off using a tablet for pdfs and large page formats.
Or you can check some ereader with a larger screen from the big brands +KOReader or google Boox (which is just a chink tablet with an e-ink display).
