No. They are a hot steamimg pile of shit that reads like shitty tumblr fanfic filled to the brim with inane dialogues, terrible plot and in your face homoerotic cock sucking of that faggot keats. Just skip them and save the book in your mind with the sweet memory of the father's story

Damn, I guess I'll skip them.

First book is better than the 2nd. I haven't read any more. I think just stopping with the first is probably the best choice.

I read the first one and didnt like it very much, there was some okay stories. But I feel like I didnt get a cathartic ending (obviously because theres a sequel) but is the ending with that Shrike creature and everything any good ?

No it isnt, it unironically ends with hippy space magic saving humanity

Ah, I see. Fuck Dan Simmons.

>> No.16383816

>>16383682
And when I say unironically, I mean that this is LITERALLY how the whole fucking series ends, this is the final conclusion. And the plot leading you there is a couple of hundred pages filled with the worst trashiest, borderline pedo litporn I've ever read.

Hahahahaha, why is he so worshipped? I sometimes go into the SCI FI GENERAL and just drop a comment saying Hyperion was trash, and people lash out at me by the dozens.

The Fall of Hyperion is a masterpiece. The Endymion books are terrible shit

The first 2 are worth reading. The second finishes up the stort of the first but isnt quite as good. The last books are fairly mediocre and take places 100s of years later and dont have much of ending. Still enjoyed them

>> No.16383928

The first two are good, the last two are completely unnecessary. I really don't think they were planned when Simmons initially wrote the series. They're not a polished and they kind of bring back dead enemies and characters who should be dead. The motivation or purpose of the shrike is also changed and it's not really explained.

>> No.16384069

The Fall of Hyperion was definitely worthwhile to me.

>> No.16384133

Hyperion and Fall of Hyperion are volumes 1 and 2 of the same story, so if you only read the first book you are just getting half of the actual story. Fall ties everything together but it's in a more traditional novel format. I enjoyed it, but the first book is definitely superior in terms of writing quality.

Endymion was just dull and unnecessary.

The Terror fucking sucks and he didn't research the background of most people on ships or even looked at pictures of them.
Watch the show instead.

Tbh I thought first book was one of the best scifi novels I ever read. But then people started talking how shit sequels were and I never bothered.

Some of the stories were okay, but it read so poorly.

"we made love on le battlefield XD XD " I dont know, I think Dan Simmons is poo.

>> No.16385006

Hyperion peaks early with the Priest's tale and then everything else is just stupid. I kind of like the poet who is very obviously a caricature of Harlan Ellison, but Ellison is an easy target and it's not like Simmons does anything interesting with his character.

It’s not just hippy magic, it’s Gundam newtype connections. Most fags just hate all the time travel shit.

Almost word for word describes the dark tower series after the gunslinger, save for the few bits about Roland's past.

The Fall of Hyperion is not as good as Hyperion but you get some closure on the first book. It's also a John Keats dissertation. The other 2 books in the series I'd recommend everyone skip unless you love shoddy time travel and hippy space magic.

Jeez, do you just do the first thing a frog tells you to do? Let's try this one, quit your job and stay home practicing til you can suck your own dick, you'll never have to read another book again.

I would really like to know that as well. Although I was genuinely interested in Hyperion and was impressed with the tale of the priest and the jewish father, I still cant believe that people praise this series that much. To be fair, I haven't read any of Simmons' other works but considering how terrible his writing style is in his magnum opus, I don't think I will be impressed by any of them either

>> No.16386974

I liked Fall, definitely worth a read. I don’t know how you could finish Hyperion and not want to keep going BRUH. I haven’t read Endymion, I don’t think I’ve ever read a positive post about it here
