What are your thoughts on Ayn Rand?

I can't really figure her out, but she seems full of spite and really depressing to listen too. However, many people seem to respect her and I don't like to judge prematurely.

Excuse me? I think an explanation would be appropriate.

Is there something about Ayn Rand and /lit/ I should know?

That would be useful if I knew what that meant.

Hi, I'm new to /lit/ but why is every thread about Ayn Rand or The Catcher in the Rye?

Fuck off and die OP

>> No.1636487

>>1635477
Anybody care to explain why that rule exists? What is it about her or her works that makes discussing them a bannable offense?

How can /lit/ of all places be in favor of banning all discussion about an author?

>> No.1636510

1/10

>> No.1636508

She's really not "full of spite" in the sense that she's miserable. She loved her view of life and if you take her ideas for what they're worth, it makes sense if she sound spiteful.

>> No.1636520

GUYS

Ayn Rand is not allowed because in /lit/'s infancy every other thread was an Objectivism thread. Post a picture of Ayn Rand or any of her books, you guaranteed 300+ replies of pseudo-intellectual dick waving. Trolls caught on and before long the board was nothing but DURR ATLAS SHRUGGED IS TEH BESTEST and HERP NUH UH.

So to get rid of a pile of trolls and get /lit/ to talk about other books m00t decided to ban Ayn Rand. She was more of a /new/ author anyway. The threads always devolved into /new/.

>> No.1636527

>>1636520
Ok, but the trolls are gone and /lit/ is up and running just fine, so why hasn't m00t decided to un-ban Ayn Rand?

It's not like we can't be mature adults when it comes to discussing what her ideas were.

Not exactly new, but not a regular by any stretch of the imagination.

I mostly come here in the vain hopes that /lit/ is actually discussing something that isn't your standard middle school/high school assigned reading.

Occasionally it's something other than school reading shit, but it's something so complex that only 3 or 4 people get it.

rand is read by small-minded, generic, middle-class, male, white, american highschool kids.

Ha ha. No.

>small-minded
I'm relatively open minded. I'll listen to anybody's point of view. Might not agree with it, but I'll listen to you while you say what you want to say.

>generic
What does that even mean?

>middle-class, male, white, american
You've got me there.

>highschool kids.
Been out of college for 3 years now.
