I don't know. If only some genius mathematician proved that given the availability of advanced technology, the process of inevitability accompanies the action of natural selection upon self-propagating systems

Genetic intelligence disparities are also "unsupported by science", despite the fact they obviously exist. If it was discovered that human intelligence didn't vary between populations separated by hundreds of thousands of years, that would be a huge problem for evolutionary theory.

When scientists want something to be "unsupported by science", they simply refuse to research it.

Do you mean that scientists are claiming to give answers that some religions try to give? Applications of science do obviously help people but not necessarilly in the same ways religion might try to.
>science rests on assumptions that are ultimately baseless
Maybe, but you could probably say the same about any sorts of ideas. That is not particular to science.

Scientism and territoriality have been a thing for hundreds of years.
I personally have more of a problem with the tone and attitude of popular science, science reporting, and entry level science writing of the past 30 years because it became too jocular and juvenile ("gee golly isn't science so weird and cool?"). I wish people would return to the more dignified and straightforward tone that was more common before. Feynman, Sagan, and others had a lot to do with that shift.

There's quite a few assumptions in science which must be taken on faith, like that the universe wasn't created yesterday with the appearance of age, that all things that happen around us have natural causes, that the universe operates on natural laws which can be discovered, that the universe exists independent of our mind, or even that two contradictory statements cannot be true.

He is definitely the worst one of them all. He wrote an entire book attempting to prove that we could theoretically get a universe from nothing but then he redefined "nothing" to be "something" without realizing it. I think many anons around here fall into at least one of those categories, and so want to believe in some sort of mysticism and push back against what they see as civilizational sickness (a perception which is admittedly correct).

The knee jerking goes both ways though... Often science-bros fail to appreciate the pragmatic value of 'grand white lies' to society.

If you still think atomism is the prevailing intellectual culture in the sciences, then I'd say that's more a problem with your ignorance of developments in the field than with science itself.
