I've just read the first 80 pages of this and it's the most boring and uninspiring writing I've encountered in a while. Yeah, I get that there's some metaphysical shit going on, but it's all so blandly written that whatever plot twists he has lined up won't make up for it.

Should I keep reading it anyways? Seriously considering cutting this one short and putting my time and effort to more worthwhile books.

No one reads Murakami for his language (which I hear in the original Japanese is supposed to be as bland as in translation), but for easy surrealism and sexy coomer material. His only good book is his Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman short story collection really.

If you don’t like it now you won’t like it at all. Feel free to drop it.

The old lady at the library has sex with the kid at one point. He astral projects and possesses a retarded man and then proceeds to murder his father.

There now you don’t have to read any more.

I actually loved the book personally

No. And there is no metaphysical thing either. It's just random nonsense
