/lit/ challenge - which books do you absolutely disagree with or dislike but still have on your shelf anyway, for thought provoking reasons or other?

>> No.16351710

Aquinas, Augustine, Bacon, Anselm.. Basically, Scholastic and Christian philosophers.

>> No.16351755

All Nietzsche's books. I'm catholic, but i think it's necessary to pass the challenge proposed by Nietzsche to confirm a true faith in conteporany world.

Loads. I'm looking right now at a book called
>The Crowning Privilege
which is a collection of Robert Graves' lectures as Professor of Poetry at Oxford. He says some sensible things but he also has essays on Nietzsche and Ezra Pound and he really, really hates both of them.

Another good example is
>Ariel (Sylvia Plath)
I mean yeah, she can write, but all those girls who think she's some great spiritual guru worthy of emulation need to grow up.

>Complete Stories, Flannery O'Connor
Kinda like the above. She can really write, but I can't stand her.

Fight!

Uh it looks like we're both willing to read each other's literature and get something out of it while disagreeing. No fighting here.

I fucking hate the blank verse form of Paradise Lost, even reading a summary before the raw text was annoying as fuck all.
That said, I absolutely love the content of the epic and it's stance of free will in regards to the Christian mythos

I have a lot of books on theory of international relations, because of uni. Some of those are Council on Foreign Relations-approved shit and it's just so bad. I really don't know how some of these guys live with themselves.
