Devil Take the Hindmost is my favorite of these, although bethany mclean (author of all the devils are here and smartest guys in the room) does great narrative financial history AND she IS a qt WIFE.

he basically just says save 3-6 months income in cash, and invest 10% of your monthly income to low low price (expense ratio) index funds, preferably in a tax free vehicle, where your equity:bond ratio equals your age as percent in bonds (so if you are 20 you should have no more than 20% in bond indexes). You can also diversify investments like rental condos and commercial investments.

He also talks about budgeting your life, creating a hard ceiling for luxury expenses etc. Its very basic stuff which I have stuck to for the last 5-6 years, and I know I can lose my job for 6 months and not have to touch retirement. You wont get rich fast like guys who go hard into tesla everytime it dips, but the risk is much lower.
