16324548 No.16324548 [Reply] [Original]

I’m a terrible fraud. My obsession with reading philosophy has more to do with my desire to appear intelligent than an honest and pure interest in the subject. I need to compensate for my ugliness and irrelevancy somehow and this is how I do it. I keep lying to myself and saying that isn’t the case, but it is. I’m not genuinely interested in anything. I’m hollow. And the worst and most pathetic thing is, I don’t even have anyone to show off to, only myself

So why not read what you’re actually interested in? Why not read about social status?

wait, do people actually give a shit about philosophy? i just read it to seem smart around art hoes.

You just sound depressed anon. You're not a fraud. You gravitated towards phil for a reason. Otherwise you'd be trying to impress people with something else, like craftsmanship/music/nature shit. I'm probably just as pathetic as you feel, but I happen to enjoy forging a relationship with myself, laughing at shit only I and no one else would understand, and generally enjoying my own fine tastes without the need for external approval. I hope you pick up a book soon that lights the fire for you again and makes your brain an exciting place to live. Maybe it won't be a book, but something else. But give yourself a break and remember that everyone around you is likely hollow and miserable too.

You do realize you can do both right? Read Philosophy and work on your shortcomings

Congratulations for finally admitting it, anon. Now you can stop shitting up /lit/ with pseud threads. If only more philfags (and marxists) could follow your example and recognise the void inside them. As for you... go and improve yourself, it sounds like you need to spend time on your issues so you don't feel the need to constantly read books in the vain hope it will change your life.

No philosophy for your face. The only reason I keep going is to save up for a modified lefort 3, orbital implants, brow lowering, MSE...etc. I probably will never own property or ever start a family because I have a 4 inch pp but I just want to look like Chico Lachowski

Same desu, but not just philosophy but literature in general. I just binge-watched a dumb anime show for the first time in a while and had more fun and more emotional connection to it than any piece of literature I've read. People on /lit/ would make fun of me for doing that rather than try to slog through a boring classic, but I'm finally realizing I don't care. I still read books every once in a while, but have learned to read only things I really enjoy, not because it's a "classic." I'm not really a books person in general and am going back to being a weeb and am now finally comfortable with life again. Maybe you should try going back to anime like I have.

American critical theory should be suitable for your mental disability.

>> No.16325182

If you're not getting much social interaction, any intensive activity you do will pique your desire to "show off" because you will project your desire to talk and vibe with others onto it. Once your interpersonal needs are satisfied, you can reliably gravitate towards subjects you find interesting as ends in themselves, rather than those you value for the sake of ostentation.

Well, it is the exact opposite with me. I would be considered a show off and a waste of time if I were to even hint to someone I read philosophy (I'm a STEM major) and I read it purely to reflect on the human condition by myself. Even when I find some idea so interesting that I HAVE to share it with someone irl, I tell them "I saw a YouTube video and the guy was saying how...", because people in the past have said to me how I waste so much time reading useless shit and that this is the reason I don't have a gf and am socially handicapped, so I just don't go there anymore.

>> No.16326377

Just go /fit/ and keep reading. Get a girlfriend who knows nothing about philosophy. Trad wives will leave you to your studies but won’t argue about anything or take offense when you’re reading inflammatory texts.
