How do you respond when you tell someone that you buy books and they go LMAO BUYING BOOOOOOKS?
YOU CAN JUST READ PDF RETARD

I tell them I'm a richfag so money is no concern. Not that this would ever happen because most people IRL in the /lit/ department just read books. Actual books.

Stop caring or try to explain what you like about physical books. You shouldn't be ashamed on what you spend your money on.

I don't because explaining the tactile response my brain has to reading a physical book is unknowable to a retina-fried epub reader. It would also be useless to explain why I prefer to not read serious texts online, as I have conditioned myself through years of 4chan posting to disregard most online information as gibberish written by 15 year olds. Then I would crush their skull with a hammer, because they a bug to me.

I'm not OP this is just my take. I have an e-reader and it works fine for travel and work but I like reading physical copies a lot more. Tactile experience of turning the pages is nice. It's easy to flip through to exactly where I want to be if I'm re-reading. Plus you can annotate.

There is literally no reason to abstain from buying actual books if you have the money and are able to control your expenses.
No one with a home library has ever been called consumerist before the 4chan memes.

I understand the rest but no the flipping argument. Surely it's much easier to type a page number or do a crtl+f in a digital book than flipping through pages manually?

Everything is a service nowadays; games, movies, etc. have all become almost completely digital.

Let me have my fucking books in peace. I don't want to become the slave to yet another digital jew in yet another aspect of my life.

It's easier to get a sense of where you are in the book when you read off a physical copy based on the thickness. So when you need to find something, it's really easy to just flip to that general area and scan pages as opposed to typing in a page number that may or may not be the one you're looking for, and then tapping your finger on the side of the device a bunch to refresh and load pages as fast as possible. The ctrl-f thing is a really good point, I hadn't thought of that. Does that work on PDFs as well or just epubs/mobi?

I don't know with e-readers, I read pdfs on my pc which obviously has ctrl+f. But good point about book thickness, although I usually get an idea of where something is by page number (like, "I'm sure that thing was after 150 but before the 200s").

Books are a tool to adjust your senses. Your brain associates the turning of the pages with the joy of progress, something a screen can never replicate. There is no physical, visual progress in PDFs.

I like the physical aspects. It looks cooler. I like flipping pages. I like storing them on my shelf. I find reading less tedious because I dislike screen staring all day.
I have a kindle paperwhite and I went back to real books. Although in the end it really doesn't matter. Being overly vocal for either side is cringe
