They ignore him. I’m serious. I go to Pitt (supposedly a good Phil school) and have never once heard him referenced. That seems unfortunate but I haven’t had the time to read him

Works written by the following pseuds are worthless inanity, not philosophy: Hegel, Freud, Bergson, Heidegger, Gadamer, Lacan, Adorno, Sartre, Levinas, Merleau-Ponty, Butler, Beauvoir, Ricoeur, Lyotard, Deleuze, Foucault, Derrida, Irigaray, Badiou, Nancy, Rancière, Kristeva, Agamben, Latour, Zizek.

It's called compartmentalization. They simply bracket it away as a historical footnote like his love of skiing. It's strange because Heidegger argued so strongly that philosophies were a product of their historical circumstance.

He wasn't the only one though.
>Frege's published philosophical writings were of a very technical nature and divorced from practical issues, so much so that Frege scholar Dummett expresses his "shock to discover, while reading Frege's diary, that his hero was an anti-Semite."[22] After the German Revolution of 1918–19 his political opinions became more radical. In the last year of his life, at the age of 76, his diary contained political opinions opposing the parliamentary system, democrats, liberals, Catholics, the French and Jews, who he thought ought to be deprived of political rights and, preferably, expelled from Germany.
They cope by never mentioning the fact.

Mainly because I have no major goals in life and my mom let me live with her for pretty much free if I went to college.
I’m finally getting my bachelor’s in the Spring so it will be interesting to see what I actually end up doing. Really wanted to travel after never having been able to, but it seems that won’t be an option. I am seriously considering working on a farm or commune-type thing so I can experience a more traditional lifestyle.
We’ll see I guess

Well if you’re that close, I’d encourage you to finish but, unless you want to go into academia, politics, medicine, or law, don’t bother going further. Everything you need and all the resources to do literally anything else is entirely available to you every where you look. You just have to set your expectations. You do not need any more schooling other than to chase titles. If your goals are family, community, and comfort, everything you need is at your fingertips.
>>16308849
Nah man I’m fucking stupid. But I started my own business and am living a lovely comfortable lifestyle and I enjoy as much literature as I can consume. I hope to be a famous writer someday as much as the next, but I’m not deluded that, if I went to school any longer that it would magically be guaranteed. Literally anyone can do it, if I can do it.

I know, though seeing academia and how it works will probably been useful should I ever decide to actually write something. I don’t think I will, though, unless it’s for myself. The thought of getting a philosophy PhD makes me want to kill myself, and, honestly, any more school sounds pretty shitty. I honestly like learning, so it’s a shame this is about the only way I can do it. Working does not leave time to think and learn on my own, but oh well.
I have thought maybe about getting a TESL certificate so that I could get a job abroad easier, but I’m just not sure I want to do that either
