Would you rather be a great artist or be happy?

>> No.16298652

Happiness is a sensation, not a state of being.

Great artist.

A great artist.

I would be made happy by it.

You should not underrate joy so much, what it has always been raised up to by the greatest artists. Even Heidegger as typically ignoring he was for emotion in many respects, said

>Why can't there be something real that is not susceptible to exact measurement? Why not sorrow, for example?
I think the same question stands for joy.

No one can be truly happy aside from random unexpected moments. So if there aren't any other alternatives...

Happy

Don't care anymore

Great artist. I don't think I could ever be happy.

I think happiness would eliminate the need for art (besides art that merely reflects and celebrates beauty)

I think art would be a vital part of happiness. Self expression is important.

I think both would be the same. To truly be happy, it would be nothing less than seeing the beauty in everything as if it were all art. And to be a great artist, although you might deal with all aspects from grief to joy, you would create works outlasting yourself and many generations to come after you, showing people the same beauty that can be found if they look all around themselves. In my own life, it is the small times that live between the darkness and phases of overt 'smiling' that are worth living for, and I would call that state of being something like real happiness. I wish all anons a good night, and that they can see the wonders too. Time for bed now.

Being 'happy' and being an 'artist' are two states of alienation.
I woud rather be.

Happiness is an art, and a state, similar to music or prophecy or meditation or ecstasy, imo. So Happy.
I don't buy this "the artist must suffer to produce good art", everyone suffers, that doesn't mean everyone is capable of makinh good art.

Unnecessary dichotomy. Read Aristotle on Eudaimonia.

Saying that one must suffer to create good art doesn’t mean that everyone who suffers must therefore be a good artist. It’s that people who are artistically inclined flourish after some sort of suffering, so the two states (happiness and good art) are more often than not mutually exclusive
