do you know any japanese "high fantasy" fiction?
i mean, something like manga (with demons, swords, magic, etc) but for adult people? i'd prefer novels, rather than short tales.
thanks

Fantasy can be for adults, but the distinction lies in the themes and intellectual topics being focused on, not the setting details such as “demons, swords, magic, etc”.
So OP isn’t actually looking for a fantasy story for adults, he’s looking for something with sex, violence, and a nihilistic/depressive outlook with the garnishings of japanese fantasy.

i knew some retard would have written this. tolkien or peake are great novelists. and pullman is a pleasant pastime.
also all ancient epic is technically fantasy, since it involves the supernatural.

the point is that fantasy is for everyone you stupid redditor.

Tolkien is for literal children, it was assigned reading at school when we were 11. Grow up.

I feel like it's obvious OP is just asking for something along the lines of LotR but Japanese

It's not bait. The Hobbit was written for his own children, and LOTR, stylistically, isn't any better.
It's for children and adults, in the sense The Oddyssey or the Eddas can work for both.

That’s exactly the kind of trash I’m suggesting OP is actually looking for, not “adult fantasy” as he thinks. Sorry if I worded my post poorly, and muddled the intended point.

Answer: Yes, there's tons of Japanese high fantasy novels (including Chinese-style fantasy). No, most of them are not translated. No, they're not that good, unless you're into generic haremshit and clichés borrowed from shounen manga.

>adult people
most of their manga/ln work is self insert power fantasies for incel virgins

try reading the web novels, there are some good ones but most high fantasy are your shitty isekai’s. If you like steampunk read Lord of the Mysteries. Victorian era kino.

And there's manga for 30+ but I don't think it gets translated often

Webnovels are the Japanese equivalent of FictionPress/Wattpad-type shit where for every novel that's good enough to get published, there's usually at least 99 other novels that are too bad to ever be anything but part of a writer's secret past they'd like to distance themselves from.
