Anyone else read pic related? Thanks to whoever rec'd it. Beyond an obvious relatability (also a NEET), to the loneliness and vote of self induced poverty, it was absolutely brutal. His sense of servile friendship really struck home.
It's darkly fun if you find yourself in such situations.
>One day as he passed me he muttered: ‘Lazy bugger!’ I went pale and did not know what to reply. I could not sleep for a week because I was afraid I had an enemy. I imagined that he was looking for an opportunity to get at me and was deadly jealous of me.

Any other NEET literature? (inb4 Welcome to the NHK)

Skylark, Confederacy of Dunces.

Oblomov is the obvious example. It's a kind of grand neetdom though because he gets by due to being born a wealthy landowner

Yeah, read these 3. Only Skylark scratches the depressive surface of my OP.

Wrong.
And at any rate, nothing prevents you (except severe autism) from self inserting as characters who weren't exactly the same.

No, I'm right. You can't self insert into a character that way.

Not only is this notion pathetic, but it makes you look like someone who hardly reads.
If you read to self insert, and the template must be very similar to yourself, how the fuck do you read anything that isn't your diary? How many books could there be with characters that are almost identical to you? 30? 100?

I read, just only if I can self insert. What are you struggling with here? Are you retarded?
