What the fuck is good writing /lit/? What the FUCK is good writing?

>> No.16286731

I think good writing is whatever can capture your mind and transport you outside of your daily experiences. If you're reading a book and you're so engrossed that you forget you're reading, that's good writing.

Good writing is articulate and straight to the point.

Writing you like
Writing you’ll keep liking, because it’s quality, and you go back to it every once in a while.
Writing that makes you feel BETTER, not depressed.

Good writing can also connect to to you on a personal level. Good need not be mere escapism, but personal edification.

>>16286734
Or flowery, metaphorical, byzantine even. Of that’s what you’re into.

What makes Fitzgerald, Hemmingway, Joyce, Flann O'Brien and Tolstoy better than Donna Tartt, Margaret Atwood, G R.R. Martin et cetera?

Nothing. If you prefer the latter group to the former, that's what is good writing for you

I need more than relativism. There has to be some standard.

Bloomer Butterfly is a nice change of pace :)

You live in a relativistic universe. The is no definitive standard.

Good writing is above all original. Avoiding metaphors is an artform. Anything that can both provoke imagination, paint a clear picture without relying on dead kliches is good writing imo.

There are two forms of good writing. The Augustan and the Neo-Romantic.

>Good writing is above all original.
Or in the very least taking the unoriginal and making it a interesting experience.
Almost everything is based off of something else or steals from them.

Aren't you ever overwhelmed by the thousands of writers who achieve good writing, but never immortality through writing? Is the the world not over-saturated with English writers?

>> No.16287992

>but never immortality through writing?
Was that ever the goal, seems more of a ideology.
To achieve steady income and a appreciative following should be your goal.

That's why I'm planning to become a Basque and Latin writer. Gotta learn Basque and Latin before that though.

Stop asking others for it then. If you're going to complain about relativism, you should at least have the balls to actually know what you want.
