Is high school English teaching a good gig? Or is it politicized beyond belief, to the point where if you're not a Marxist your'e not gonna fit in?

Is there enough leniency that I can do my own thing in public school teaching, or will administrators be expecting me to push political bullshit instead of teaching Chaucer, Dante, and Homer?

The students will probably be worse but yeah you generally have to follow a curriculum in public schools. Private schools give you more freedom I believe

90% of my high school English class resented being there and could barely read anything longer than 140 characters. I'm sure it has its perks, but getting through the thick skulls of today's high school students must be a Sisyphean task

Are you retarded or is your brain just full of memes? Teaching hs English sucks but it's not because of marxism. Just move to West Virginia or Georgia or somewhere and I promise you you won't have to worry about leftism on the job.

Always makes me laugh. I’d give him a free pass in his argumentation just for that.

Alright, it might have just been where I went to high school if I remember correctly. I don't mean "Marxism" literally. I'm just talking about the general leftist bullshit. All I ever did in high school English was learn about how anyone who disbelieves in open borders is evil; all men are rapists; "income inequality" and "social injustices" caused by "big banks" must be remedied, etc. When I got to college I was just so fucking glad to finally be able to read something written by Shakespeare.

Fuck sources, "peer reviewed" publications are systematically censored to push a narrative anyway. It doesn't matter what's "credible" or not when you get to decide what is so. Last post is based

Where the fuck did you go to school? I was in high school in the 2010s in Los Angeles of all places and I read Shakespeare at least every single year

East Coast liberal as fuck area. We read Shakespeare once actually, my Freshman year. We read the Taming of the Shrew and the teacher did nothing but talk about feminism and women's rights. The class also featured a feminist reading of Antigone, some other feminist authors writing about domestic assault and rape and shit like that. I don't see why everything had to be politicised. There must be some sort of common core guideline mandating that political issues be discussed.

>>16283143
By contrast when I read Antigone and other shit like the Orestiea and Homeric epics in my first year of college we discussed things like fate vs free will, determinism, justice and vengence, etc etc aka what those works are really about rather than some forced bullshit political reinterpretation

It's the Ur-boomer benefits racket and completely unviable/overloaded. If the common core bullshit continues, you will also hate being there as much as the retards populating the class.

Have you seen a common core english book? Every other lesson is how to use language for pushing agendas, it's why every twitter activist, diversity officer or sensitivity trainer use the same formulas

You wont have any freedom to teach after grade 9. You literally have to teach the syllabus because students have to sit exams on certain texts chosen by the government. At least that's how it is in the UK. You won't make a lot of money, but at least you get big school holidays.

I wouldn't want to be in a room full of zoomers, and even worse, attempt to teach them literature in that time.
