I've spent the last month marathoning this novel and I finally reached the end today. Now tell me what I think of it.

Regardless of what you think of it, you respect the author for putting in the time and having the creativity to write it.

I also marathoned it when I was 15 and I really liked it, got me into reading. The sex scenes got me hard and the violence made me feel uneasy. I liked it a lot more than the movie.

what did you like about it? I thought it could have been written better to confuse the nf w the f, sorta so the whole book felt like a climax, if written as well as the end was. The vapidness of the other characters could have been pushed further for this effect instead of acting like bateman's hype men (or it could have made them all turbo hype men to dig the same effect). If it was to emphasize pomo hyperrealism then it did a bad job at it. I got the vibe it was just an egotistical guy in a typical gore story

I enjoyed reading Bateman's rich descriptions of his sociopathic alienation and slow lapse into insanity. By the end of the story I felt sympathy for Bateman even though at this point he had described commiting gruesome, cruel acts of torture, rape, and murder, not to mention cannibalism and necrophilia. I also really like how a shadow of doubt is cast on the veracity of Bateman's narration throughout the story as he descends into madness.

atleast 12/year is solid, taking into account that there are plenty of better and shorter books than American Psycho.
