Yes.
I will read some Kafka for now and in the future I need to buy the full english version if I want the full Moby Dick experience

Not him but did it include “the whiteness of the whale”? I’m curious because it’s the best chapter of the book

Lmao, it’s incredible that there are enough people who get filtered so hard by the non-narrative parts of Moby-Dick that publishers butcher it to give it wider appeal. The books themes don’t work without the non-narrative chapters and yet they omit them

>> No.16251515

wow, almost like abridgments are perfectly fine when done well for verbose books

Except Moby-Dick’s encyclopaedic sections are important to understanding the meaning of the book, OP’s copy omits “the whiteness of the whale” the most central of any chapter to the books primary themes.
>varied language bad
>t.Soulless pleb who can’t into art
The only people who read abridged books do so because they only care about plot, if you read for the plot then you should stick to genre fiction.

You cant read a translation of Moby Dick. All Dialogue/Monologue is lost and not repircable.

Wealth of Nations was so fucking dry and huge that the people would just keep referencing it and not actually reading it, even in the first few decades after it was published.

>buy the Brook Zipporin translation
>it's great
>later I realize this is still missing some of the commentaries
Not that big of a deal, mostly in it for the inner chapters but fuck me, I'll just read the remaining commentaries online. Most of them seem like filler anyways with some gems here and there like the story about Zhuangzi's wife.
