Kind of like this. Shelves to the ceiling with a ladder, a Chaise lounge chair with the incline under the knees, a fully stocked bar, another shelf to the ceiling with records, a great soundsystem and turntable, a bunch of houseplants, and a lot of first editions or at least my favorite looking editions. Then I'd never touch them and continue to read on my e-reader.

i love that chair. i think that's the most essential part of a library because that's where you're going to do you're reading.

this pandemic has just revealed how crappy my chair is to reading and my back and i'm in desperate need of another.

indefinite, perhaps infinite number of hexagonal galleries. In the center of each gallery would be a ventilation shaft, bounded by a low railing. From any hexagon could see the floors above and below-one after another, endlessly. The arrangement of the galleries would always be the same: Twenty bookshelves, five to each side, line four of the hexagon's six sides; the height of the bookshelves, floor to ceiling hardly greater than the height of a normal librarian. One of the hexagon's free sides would open onto a narrow sort of vestibule, which in turn opens onto another gallery, identical to the first-identical in fact to all. To the left and right of the vestibule would be two tiny compartments. One is for sleeping, upright; the other, for satisfying one's physical necessities. Through this space, too, there would pass a spiral staircase, which winds upward and downward into the remotest distance. In the vestibule there would be a mirror, which faithfully duplicates appearances. Men would infer from this mirror that the Library is not infinite-if it were, what need would there be for that illusory replication? I prefer to dream that burnished surfaces are a figuration and promise of the infinite... . Light would be provided by certain spherical fruits that bear the name "bulbs." There are two of these bulbs in each hexagon, set crosswise. The light they give would be insufficient, and unceasing.

Yeah, obviously. Way more comfortable to scroll or tap over flipping pages, no need to look for a book, can make notes and read these later, can copy/pasta passages you want to analyze, no need to dust off books. Also fewer objects generally. Fuck hoarders.

>omg i must consoooooooooom!
exactly the "library" i already have, a pirate-pad kindle with ebooks. imagine reading for the pretense of the window dressing so you can use it as yet another status symbol flex, instead of reading without telling anyone or making a big deal about it. do you like books? or are you just using them as a fashion accessory because you have no soul and no personality?

waste of oxygen and food, kill yourself.

seems like a shit idea to array them all on one horizontal shelf, also when you get oldier using the ladder won't be possible and or safe. Why not just store your books in a garage or something with multiple shelves and a stool.
