I know most people self diagnose with anxiety and depression which has devalued them though I'm lucky and haven't suffered with either but I've been formally diagnosed with schizophrenia so I can kind of understand how it feels when people self diagnose and misrepresent what can be very serious and debilitating issues

I wouldn't consider it a part of someone's personality, but it depends how broadly you define personality. In my mind, personality is something you built to represent who you think you should be and is an internal image, not the social image that people create when you interact with them. Personality is what you control and social image is what your peers control. It is a communication defect, so the translation from personality to social image is not in place, so the social image is fucked but that says nothing towards the actual person behind the image.
There's a difference between someone something like avoidant personality disorder and social anxiety. Those with avoidant personality disorder would theoretically have made avoiding people a part of their own mentality, intention being the key, it's not seen as a fault otherwise they'd be perfectly capable of changing. That's a personality disorder. On the other hand, unnaturally severe anxiety may effect personality, causing them to adopt traits more fitting for their isolated state, but it is not a trait itself. It is a mental flaw that stops you from sharing your personality.
