Memorizing the signs is definitely harder than studying the Akkadian grammar, but my brain has been fried from vidya and interwebs at an early age, so the memorization is probably not hard for everyone. I reckon that Sumerian grammar will be many times more difficult for various reasons, though.

Is it actually possible to teach oneself akkadian to high degree outside of university? I was planning of just going though huehnergards book on the grammar and afterwards simply reading anything i can get my hands on as well as going through von sodens grundriss der akkadischen grammatik(I'm fluent in german) and any resource to acquire additional vocab and signs. Does that sound like a solid plan to anyone that has gone through with learning it?
