The most part of the population is like that. The school I went too tho made us read books that normally appear in University exams - mostly the "classics" by some communist. And we read a lot of Machado too, he's like the only one worth reading if you're not Brazilian.

It was an actual reading in my middle school. I don't know what the fuck these educators were thinking. Anyway, here's mine. I have a strong interest in the mind and I read a lot of weird things, like "Cybernetics and character", and I always get SOMETHING out of them. But pic related is absolutely useless garbage, this hack should stay the fuck away from anything mind-related forever because of this embarassment.

It's so bad that I immediately dismiss anyone even associated with this dumbass. I stopped talking to the person who recommended me this book. Lex Friedman is an idiot and I refuse to listen to his podcast, because he invited this cretin and was impressed somehow by him and his idiocy. It's a good litmus test. You think Kaku's ideas about the mind / brain worthwhile? Good, let me not waste any more time on you, thanks for letting me know. Penguin published this book? Ok, I thought Penguin had some standards, I guess you can't assume any modicum of quality when you see that stamp, good to know.

I can't think of a single other book I would regret having read. There were fraudulent bait and switches, like "The sexual life of Immanuel Kant", but even they contain something of value. This one is negative value. Fuck. This. Guy.

Of course you could't finish it after reading Martin, feudal structure and political intrigue aside, they sit on the opposide sides of the spectrum. Yes, Dune is slow, but the pacing and themes distinctly separate it from the rest of the genre(s).

yeah that's the easiest way to put somebody down who isn't buying into your shit, just say it was too good for them. I have read plenty of slow and long books, but this one was exceptionally mediocre. Maybe I just went in with high hopes. Maybe I was more in mood for some court intrigue thing, which The Accursed Kings series satisfied, but I couldn't get into it even when I picked it up later in the year.

It's okay to drop it if it wasn't what you expected it to be and you wanted something else out of it. Not everyone is into gradiose scifi epics. But calling one of the best books in the genre slow and boring is an invitation to be dismissed as a midwit. You don't have to like what a book does to recognize what it does and how well.

Probably Camus’s The Stranger. Wow, what a fucking autist Camus was. Both books of his that I’ve read are so fucking mechanical and uninteresting. The Stranger had probably the most boring and bland prose I’ve ever read in my entire life. Not to mention the brain rotting story.

Part of the issue is that Camus wrote in french and it's difficult to translate the prose. Honestly though the story is rather boring and unassuming. Most of its popularity is that its a short, relatively easy read that's "deep" and makes you look smart.
