It's okay. Translation is good, and quality is excellent. I'd buy it if you want to support Word on Fire, or if you're a new to Christianity, or if its a gift. It's a work intended to evangelize to new/prospective believers. Right now it's only the gospels however. It's not technically a Bible.

Well it was especially easy in universities like Oxford, because going to school was less focused on what you were studying and more about social exposure. So long as you frequented the same pub or literary club, you were bound to find a niche of people. That's what happened with the pythons, and was especially likely if you talked theology and writing which are more specialized. Owen Barfield was the only other famous inkling, but from what I've read he was more into theosophy and got lost in structualist linguistics.

I have a couple different ones. My favorite is a smaller cloth bound RSV-CE and my main study bible is the Ignatius one by Scott Hahn. I have a Greek/English interlinear New Testament which I'm starting to get more use out of since I'm learning the language. My least favorite is the Didache bible because it cost me a lot of money and the commentary really isn't all that good or useful. It also has apologetic inserts which are placed throughout without any thought put into it.

Don't worry about skill, casting can be developed without a hook (just put cork or something on the line) and practice in your backyard. It really combines hiking, fishing, and model building (tying your own flies is like a hobby in itself). Read the first four gospels, don't go in order you'll just confuse yourself. I've only read the NKJV, but if you get into the Old Testament the Septuigent is the best OT. Theology is very important, in fact it is impossible to answer your question without some theological leaning. I recommend you get into theology if you're interested in the Bible, if you go in closed minded like you state you'll reap nothing from it. Reading it as a piece of fiction is ignorant, regardless of your views on Christianity. I hope you find peace and better your relationship with God.
