He really really does, but a lot of Islamic art really just looks a lot like the popular Ali depictions. Don’t get me wrong it’s a powerful depiction, Ali’s sayings and the like are also very very enjoyable.

Not the anon you're responding too but I just started Là-Bas today and so far it's great. Might even be better than A rebours, we'll see. The other writers you mentioned are also great, especially d'Aurevilly, I'm also a big fan of Villiers de L'Isle-Adam, you should check him out if you like d'Aurevilly and Huysmans

oh yes i have been planning to read his axel for a while. but most of his works are not translated or i am mistaken? generally i read french authors in portuguese for being closer but always checking the original, but even in portuguese his works are difficult to find.

I really liked both d’aurevilly and Adam, especially future Eve but also that story of his about the man trapped by the inquisitors. Only problem is I have to translate the stuff myself using various sites.
