I thinks its getting worse. I don't know why I come here. I did a study awhile ago, a strawpoll, and like half of everyone admitted they didn't read. Results could have been thrown, but I personally believe them. People just read summaries on wikipedia and then talk like an authority on the subject. Whats telling is that some of the books raved about are either so well known in academia its practically mainstream, or so obscure and disregarded like Spengler or Guenon that it makes /lit/ look retarded. The only alternative is plebbit and the thought of using that makes me die inside.

I forgot to add that /lit/ has seemingly no awareness of literature outside the Anglosphere. The grasp here on Russian or South American literature (outside of the basics which I won't even name, they're so well known) is poor.
