What could be done to improve the genre?

We know the problems, now let's think of solutions.

>> No.16180398

Base it on real material conditions, do way more research and ground the setting. Fuck this "magic system" metaphysical rule shit that you just make up. That's boring and it kills literature.

you can't control the people that write in that genre.

no series should be longer than 3 books
no book should be longer than 500 pages
magic should be cool rather than logical
women writers should never write love triangles
men writers should tone down the cringe of their sex scenes by 1000x
writers of color should write fantasy based on precolonial rather than postcolonial time periods based on their heritage
everyone should learn how to history from Guy Gavirel Kay

How about we just take out the sex scenes. Narnia didn't have any and is better than every fantasy series apart from lord of the rings

>> No.16180440

Read actual literature so you know there's more to fiction than regurgitating tropes and worldbuilding autism with no underlying purpose.

You're like the peasant in the field who espies a mountain in clear weather, and remarks upon this as if the mountain is small because it is far from him.

stop adding woman and romance to modern fantasy, make them subtle. Adding in all these shitty tropes that people see in anime make them terrible, it’s another medium. I want to be fascinated by world building and character building not tranny sex.

>> No.16180742

We need a fantasy novel that depicts mass immigration and multiculturalism with disastrous consequences.

Good luck getting it published though! I'm sure the thick rimmed glasses wearing feminist cunt who reads it will be eager to take it to market.

Read the epics and copy them, abandon modern influence
That's literally it

the library sex scene in the witcher is the best thing to have ever been written

kill Sanderson.
inject more "literary fiction" into the genre in terms of style.
stop writing series.
focus on the character, the individual.

we have to go back

>> No.16181806

To write excellent fiction, you need to read and learn from excellent fiction. The problem is that anyone reading the greats would feel no compulsion to write about goblins, dragons, and so on. Fantasy is just one of those genres that attracts nothing but hacks.

>> No.16181843

>>16181806
Not true, see the aforementioned Kay, and Gene Wolfe. Certainly not hacks. Sadly, it is true that hack writers laid the commercial foundation and have an outsized creative influence on modern fantasy literature.
