Has a lit honestly changed you in a significant way? What was it?

Not in any significant way. I learned about some great books here, but really Twitter is better for that.

it has made me more misanthropic, other creative boards have interesting finds and actual discussions, this one just shells the same 25 books over and over and over again and argues about basic philosophy that should probably be on pol. I would wager maybe 8% of the people on this board could actually hold a conversation about books

Same dude. Retards here can't even name a book that isn't in the top 100.

Look at this poor guy... thinking he can get a real discussion from the vermin that is /lit/:

Yes, it has made me stronger, way more stronger than if I had just allowed my shitty childhood become the basis for my behavior in adulthood

I came on this board hoping to be de-radicalized from /pol/ by accruing knowledge and calming the fuck down.

I calmed down, and I stopped caring about /pol/ and their idiotic obsession with fascism and Jews...but I only went further to the right.

Im only a beginner when it comes to reading and barely have anything under my belt but Im starting to realize this too. I thought this was the best board before (probably is still up there) and used it as an escape from /pol/ but although this place isnt as braindead and immature as /pol/, its just a gathering of pretenious dickweeds who either don’t actually discuss shit and go in circles or don’t actually fucking read anything that isnt on a chart or that they can find a summary of online.

I dont think philosophy should be allowed on this board. I think the reason discussion is so often limited to such a small selection of meme books is because it's hard to have discussions about a book with someone if they have not read it also. Plenty of threads get posted where a poster wants to discuss a non-chart book, but they're lucky if more than a couple anons have read it. The obvious but unrealistic solution to this problem is group reads, but given that we are on 4chan, theres no accountability and the type of person this site attracts is generally not great at commitment or following through. As many anons have said, /lit/ is great for getting recommendations and in this sense there is evidence that people here do in fact read, but it's the fostering of conversation where we struggle. Part of it is that most people here aren't actually literature majors or otherwise trained in lit analysis, as an appropriate data mining thread will reveal, but often young professionals, stem majors, or neets. I myself majored in art and have no formal training on how to analyze and discuss literature. Art history and art criticism I'm much more comfortable discussing, but those are subjects that dont come up here very often. I'd love to see some anons who have actually earned a degree in /lit/ contribute sources for learning how to analyze and discuss literature... maybe I'll make a thread sometime asking that sort of material and hopefully spark the interest in others as well, but I'm about to go to bed right now

/lit/ has helped me find the best translations for a number of works and has provided insight through effortposts that I'm very thankful of.

I go through these things where after reading a book I live according to it's philosophies and start thinking like main character and then I just slowly go back to my status quo.

Probably Kant, Hegel, and Nietzsche, but it's just a schizopost so don't worry too much. Read it for the memes if you want to.
