Will m&d overtake GR as Pynchon’s magnus opus in the future?

>> No.16144005

>>16143994
Probably not, the cultural significance of GR is too great, it changed the lit world.

how would anyone here know? everyone's lying about having read pynchon

I hate to break it to you, but outside of *some* American colleges and this weird little site, no one gives a shit about anything Pynchon wrote.

I would agree with that anon even though I think m&d is better.GR is one of the first examples ppl give of postmodern literature.plus it is known for being very difficult which ensures its place in literary discussion as it will always be analyzed

Tcol49 is unironically more popular and the first and most predictable example of a postmodern text.

It was a rather influential novel for those to come.

Ok but you just restated what you said before. How was it influential?
>>16144040
Yeah ok but how did it influence anything? Do you have any examples?

It absolutely didn't. The only thing it did was influence a bunch of american midwits like DFW.

Go on Wikipedia and look up its cultural influence.

Do you not read? His sort of disconnected hallucinatory narrations/prose time lapses that transitions between scenes while adding context has been used and reworked by countless since, DFW, DeLillo (supposedly heavily, have yet to read him), Powers, T.C. Boyle, all I can think of at this hour. Beyond that there are allusions to GR all over lit to come. It even goes into genre lit and had a huge influence on cyberpunk and SF in general. Someone else will have to help fill in, been up drinking all night.

There is a nice little allusion to GR in 2666, I think in part 3, anyone know it? It is driving me nuts trying to remember it. I will be amazed if someone pulls this out of their ass.

I also think once the reader adjusts to its archaic style, m&d is Pynchon’s most straightforward work and a good entry point for him.m&d also maintains the paranoid feel that his works are known for, while being sentimental and optimistic.
