Because they are mainly known for some relatively short books that don't require a very deep knowledge on the subject.

I mean ,a fuckton of these people would get filtered by the very first three books of The World as Will and Representation, it doesn't matter that if we go by Schopenhauer's own words/conception both budism and christianity systems are also pessimist. Midwits just read the Wikipedia entries and then try to argue with you that "Nah, Schopenhauer wanted to kill himself"
