Hey lit, I get to write a paper for class where I make a variation on a myth to comment on something, say, society, or humanity or some issue and so on.

--Like Camus and Sisyphus. But I'm not very well versed in myths. So /lit/, what are some of your favorites? What myths do you find interesting or insightful? Adages or 1001 Arabian Nights style tales are good also!

Write about the Aztec myth where Quetzalcoatl collects the jade bones that are the only remains of mankind, takes them into the underworld, crushes them into powder (after seperating them into male and female bones, of course) and then bleeds his penis on the bone powder to revive humans for the fifth age.

What language is wrote in is irrelevant to his significance in Czech culture.

Narcissus.

>> No.1613804

I fucking love greek mythology. Even the well known stuff.
Easy options for a paper:
Pandora's box
Theseus and the Minotaur
Narcissus loving his reflection
Echo the nymph

Fucking awesome ones
Daphne turning into a tree (Desire/greed)
Orpheus and Eurydice (Human weakness)

Orpheus and Eurydice is really good- I think I might use it.

Quite a bit like Lot and turning his wife into a pillar of salt.

Also, Beckett was well know for producing lots of his work in French first, then English, but that doesn't mean he isn't an Irish writer.

Narcissus almost seems too obvious, but reading Ovid lead me in a pretty interesting direction. Thanks for the suggestions.

Any other thoughts /lit/? I really like the Daphne idea.
