I am in the middle of Revolt Against the Modern World and I’m finding that I really like Evola’s thought and especially the analysis of history that he undertakes in the second half.

In his analysis of civilizations, he makes a distinction between “solar” and “virile” civilizations and “earthly” and “lunar “ civilizations. The solar societies are those that focus on overcoming, on heroism, are represented by the Apollo archetype, etc... The earthly civilizations are based on gynaeocratic ruling classes, looseness of sexual morals, emphasis on cooperation, and a spiritual conception of returning to the earth. I’ve heard them elsewhere described as societies of the mother.

Are there other authors who bring up this distinction or who discuss societies with this framework, spiritually and metaphysically instead of just purely politically? I think a lot of the footnotes in Evola’s book are from authors who aren’t translated into English. Preferably authors who aren’t overly misogynistic, though I think this subject matter probably attracts a certain type, so I’ll read them even if they are.

I think you need to make a distinction between a sort of objective examination on reality and describing a system that requires a counterpart to how you want society to be.

That is to say, you want society to be VIRILE and TRAD and MANLY and SOLAR, so you need a STERILE and MODERNIST and FEMININE and LUNAR society to counter it. But just because that system requires an opposite to exist doesn't actually mean it exists. As far as I'm aware there are no such societies, even "Old Europe" ala Marija Giambutas (I probably fucked that, I don't speak depression) was stratified, hierarchical, violent, etc.

The only actual "matriarchy" that I can think of are the Mosuo, and they're special.
