>AI passes the Turing test*
>its writing becomes indestinguishable from that of a human writer
What will this mean for the future of human-writers and their profession?

For good writers who actually have something relevant to say: nothing.
For pseuds and obscurantist retards like Joyce who use word salad as a device to enchant the reader it means the end of literature as they know it.

I have posted more than proof enough. The machine AI can even write philosophy up to this point. Get informed.

At this point in time, yes, high-quality literature is still not dominated by Machine AI learning. But this is just a very, very temporary thing. You see, in order for a person to be able to imrpove enough to become a great writer, e needs to practise his art during a whole lifetime; but for a machien to do the same, all it takes is a single generation of computational improvement.

nothing. most published writing is already highly formulaic and strictly limited in the ideas and conclusions allowed to be given.

Human writers will use AI to assist them (atleast the smart ones) Use the AI to expand your story multiple times, look for what you think are actually kino storylines. Edit, format, add your own fluff. This is the future of writing, boomers might not like it but just wait till a breath taking novel is written this way.
Human writers won't go away, and AI will not be consistent for 300 pages for a while.
