I just finished reading Ayn Rand's 'The Fountainhead', and I think it changed my life. If everyone behaved like Howard Roark, the world would be a better place, no doubt about it. I haven't read very many books since I'm still in highschool (We had to read this book for class), so I'd like to know some other books I might like.

Golly, I used to be a democract, but like I said- this book changed my life, lol.

AS > Everything else Rand.

If you read Atlas first, everything she has to say is in there so the older works are just repetition.

but that's the thing. AS tells. WTL shows. It's a lot more personal and emotional and the characters aren't just cutout representations of ideas. AS was just an excuse for the speech.

>> No.1611511

The connection I felt with The Fountainhead is that the main character is an artist in a way. It's an inspiring read for any creative person to have dedication and perseverance in their work.

That is the worst logic I've ever heard.

1. Ayn Rand is not literature
2. Even if her work was considered literature, her sexual deviance is still not lit related.

OP here, you bitches best stick with the topic of discussion or gtfo of my thread.
Ayn Rand is a world classic no matter what you say. And the fact that she was a lesbian and chose not to conform to socially acceptable sexual preferences only adds to the immense depth of her original ideas.

...Ayn Rand was not a lesbian.
She was a kinky fucking submissive, maybe.
Not a lesbian.

. . . Ayn Rand was essentially anti-homosexuality. She believed it was irrational and counterproductive to achieving personal excellence. (Though as an anarchist she didn't believe the government should have had the authority punish people for being homosexual.)

>> No.1611723

>>1611692
her views on sex were pretty much super lame.

It seems to me that male homosexuality is a better expression of her ideas than anything else. Meh.

I agree. Objectivism itself should leave quite a lot of room for homosexually, since it values individual expression so much (as opposed to societal norms) and doesn't seem to take much stock in reproduction. Ayn Rand herself typically spoke out against homosexuality quite vehemently, though, in interviews and in her writings. It was probably a product-of-the-times thing.

it's pretty clear that objectivism is not a philosophy. it's what a random person in a random corner of the world thought of on a particular day, with no particular value. now who would care about what rand thought about sex
