How does World Anvil rank as a program for writers/worldbuilders? Is the premium content worth the price, and if not, what would you use instead and why?

I tried some extended world-building for my P&P campaign but stopped doing it quite soon again.
It's often very very useless trivia that can be pulled out of your ass at the spot just as well. And once I as a GM had something prepared I always had the latent feeling that I need to show it too. With too many named mountains and cities and companies/factions whatever things become like a tourist tour no one gives a shit about.
I can only imagine it being the same for creative writing.

As for the program I really don't know since I haven't tried. I use something like a crazy person wall where I stick handwritten notes and scribbles.
It doesn't seem like it gives any real benefit if you only do it for yourself. The possibility for a good representation of your world is really neat, but that only comes into play when you do it for others who need flashy pictures and a cool design.
Because from what I can see, a text document with hyperlinks does a similar job.

What are your experiences with it? It seems like you used the free version already.

How does World Anvil compare to programs like Scrivener or Campfire?

I'm open to people explaining to me how worldbuilding is anything more than just a way to waste time or procrastinate on making a story.

No, but I have seen a lot of ads for it lately, so I decided to ask before trying it out.

Good question. Bumping for interest.

Making sure that the setting is consistent is a waste of time?
